A SOCIALISTIC COTTAGE INDUSTRY
“Socialistic Cottage Industry” manifest a typology of work and workspace that blurs the boundaries between work and leisure. The building design attempts to reengage with craftsmanship whilst overlapping it with contemporary technologies and to reestablish the human relationship to work, workspace and pleasure to work. This project raises a critique of the contemporary view of work as compensatory toil rather than fulfillment and pleasure. In addition, the relationship between consumers and producers is reestablished. Not an aspect of the building is predictable, each production space is uniquely tailored to bespoke stages or exhibit of the production process. Workspaces with items such as drying loggia or a sewing of Perankan Cloth embrace a return to traditional craftsmanship by exhibiting and showcasing the making process to the visitor.
